tedxlincoln

my involvement in tedxlincoln started as a junior in high school, and it continued to be a part of my life while i lived away from nebraska. i have programmed, designed, marketed, and handled logistics for tedxlincoln and tedxlincoln youth.

tedxlincoln has been in my life for many years, and i have worked in almost all of the departments.

programming for content

programming plays an important part in the event’s direction, atmosphere, and ability to sell tickets. i have spent time helping pick event themes, reviewing hundreds of applications, and selecting other performers with various talents. some of my favorite themes were “unleash brilliance”, “what now?”, and “be the change”. i’ve also listed some cool speeches from lincoln’s very own below:

experience design

tedxyouth@lincoln is known for pop-up experiences and interactive activities for people of all ages. through collaboration with local organizations and businesses, i have helped create different stations with unique connections to the event themes and speeches. tedxyouth has provided a wide range of experiences for event attendees:

  • life-sized angry birds

  • hip-hop classes

  • virtual reality experiences

  • sense-deprivation stations

  • human foosball

  • anthon berg-inspired generous stores

marketing

marketing has involved many people in the tedx organization, and i have helped primarily with social media. the greatest successes of my endeavors have come from:

  • targeted facebook and instagram advertisements

  • appearances on television and radio shows

  • contacting local businesses for sponsorship and marketing support

  • partnering with regionally known personalities such as the mayor, hannah houston (the voice), mike smith live, and other influencers

logistics

there’s an incredible range of logistics to take care of with tedxlincoln events. between handling volunteers, food stations, performers, and interactive stations, i’ve done too many jobs over the years to spend time on everything. here’s a few:

  • moving the giant letters (pictured right) and handling other stage necessities

  • ordering and distributing hundreds of t-shirts to speakers, crew, and volunteers

  • securing restaurants, bakeries, and other food businesses to serve at events- at discounted rates or free of charge

  • recruiting relevant artists and setting up art installations within venue guidelines

  • feeding speakers and talent at every meeting and rehearsal

  • checking in guests, knowing whereabouts of speakers, volunteers, and performers
